NXP and TSMC Consider Expanding Their Partnership in Singapore

NXP Semiconductors NV and its Taiwan-based partner, Vanguard International Semiconductor Corp., are discussing an expansion of their $7.8 billion venture in Singapore amid rising U.S.-China tensions and the need to diversify chip production. The Netherlands-based NXP and its Taiwanese partner laid the foundation for a joint chip factory in eastern Singapore on Wednesday. NXP's Vice President Andy Micallef stated during the ceremony that the partners are currently working on a second phase of expansion, but this addition has not yet been officially approved.
