BHP Announces Resumption of Iron Ore Operations at Australia's South Flank

BHP spokesperson announced that operations at two iron ore mines in Western Australia were suspended on Saturday due to severe rainfall in the Pilbara region, but resumed today. The spokesperson stated, “After the heavy rain and flash flooding in Pilbara, we evacuated personnel from our MAC and South Flank mines to our accommodation villages on Saturday. Operations were temporarily halted until it was safe to return to the site.” BHP's Mining Area C (MAC) and South Flank mines form part of the Mid Pilbara hub of the company's Western Australian iron ore operations, which delivered 65 million tons of iron ore in the first quarter of the 2025 fiscal year.
