Apple Accelerates Expansion of Its News Platform
As the American technology group increasingly becomes a significant force in boosting revenue in the publishing sector, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is accelerating its plans to expand the News app.
According to those familiar with the plans, the iPhone maker is considering adding new countries to the platform, which currently reaches around 125 million people each month in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia. It is also reportedly looking to enhance local news coverage in the U.K. and to add a puzzles section, which is currently only available in the U.S. and Canada, to that country.
In addition to its efforts to increase advertising effectiveness, Apple hopes that expanding the News app will strengthen its role as a growing revenue source for many publishers.
The app is part of Apple’s broader strategy to connect people to its products, while also representing a small portion of the company’s expanding services business, which includes Apple TV+ and Apple Pay, valued at approximately $96 billion annually.
