Automotive Market Grows by 7.3% in December
Foreks - The market for cars and light commercial vehicles in December 2024 increased by 7.3% compared to December 2023, reaching 170,249 units. According to data released by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), car sales in December 2024 rose by 6.6% year-on-year to 134,811 units, while the light commercial vehicle market recorded an increase of 9.9%, totaling 35,438 units. The car and light commercial vehicle market improved by 43.1% compared to the average sales of the past ten Decembers. The car market itself grew by 49.6% based on the same ten-year average, while the light commercial vehicle market increased by 22.8%.
- Year 2024 - The total market for cars and light commercial vehicles in Turkey for 2024 showed a 0.5% increase compared to the previous year, totaling 1,238,509 units. Car sales rose by 1.3% to 980,341 units, while the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 2.7% to 258,168 units. Vehicles in segments A, B, and C, which have lower tax rates, accounted for 85.7% of the market. Segment C cars represented a 55.4% share with 543,427 units, while segment B cars accounted for 29.8% with 291,689 units.
When evaluated by body types, the most preferred body type was SUVs, with a 56.8% share and 556,548 units sold. Sedans followed with a 25.4% share and 248,902 units sold, while hatchback cars held a 16.8% share with 164,443 units sold.
In terms of engine types, gasoline cars accounted for 60.1% with 588,914 units sold, hybrid cars made up 18.8% with 184,177 units, electric cars represented 10.7% with 105,315 units, while diesel cars had 9.8% with 95,985 units. Autogas cars accounted for 0.6% with 5,950 units sold.
