Trump Did Not Assure Against Using Military or Economic Pressure to Take Control of Greenland and the Panama Canal
Forex - Elected President Donald Trump refused to commit to not using military or economic pressure to take control of Greenland and the Panama Canal, and accelerated America's campaign to expand its global footprint.
In a press conference he organized, in response to a question about whether he could guarantee that the U.S. would not use its military and economic strength to get what it wants, Trump stated, "I’m not going to commit to that now. Maybe you have to do something, we need Greenland for national security. I’ve been told that for a long time. Even long before I ran."
Trump indicated that he would impose tariffs on Denmark if it resisted his proposal to buy Greenland, which he said is vital for U.S. national security. Denmark responded by stating that Greenland is not for sale.
Trump also accused Panama of charging high fees for American sea and land vessels to pass through the canal. Additionally, he mentioned that his administration would change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, saying, "What a beautiful name and it's appropriate too."
