Lufthansa Group to Hire 10,000 Employees by 2025 While Continuing Cost-Cutting Measures in Main Airline
Investing.com -- German airline group Lufthansa (XETRA:LHAG) announced on Wednesday that it plans to hire approximately 10,000 employees across the group by 2025 and will continue its cost-cutting efforts at its main airline. The hiring plan includes over 2,000 cabin crew, more than 1,400 ground services staff, around 1,300 technical specialists, 1,200 administrative staff, and 800 pilots. More than half of the new hires are expected to take place in Germany.
The group had a higher hiring target for 2024, aiming to recruit 13,000 new employees across the group. However, as part of the "Turnaround efficiency" program, it anticipates hiring fewer staff in 2025. Lufthansa Airlines, one of Europe’s leading airlines, is struggling with low revenues, competition from international carriers, and rising costs, prompting the implementation of a cost reduction program that will last until 2026.
Lufthansa Technik, the company’s maintenance division, will be the focus of hiring in 2025. The group’s subsidiaries, Austrian Airlines and Eurowings, each plan to hire about 700 employees. Lufthansa Airlines aims to recruit around 1,200 staff over the next 12 months, focusing on operations.
