Director of Chinese Company Refuses to Engage in Taiwan Submarine Cable Damage

Investing.com -- The director of a Chinese company, which owns a vessel suspected of damaging Taiwan's underwater communication cable, denied involvement in the incident on Wednesday. The Taiwanese government expressed its concerns regarding the situation.

The Coast Guard reported that it dispatched a ship on Friday to investigate claims made by local telecommunications provider Chunghwa Telecom about damage to an underwater communication cable off the island's northern coast.

Upon arrival, the Coast Guard identified the "Shunxin 39," a vessel manned by Chinese personnel and registered in both Cameroon and Tanzania. The Coast Guard requested the ship to return to a Taiwanese port for further investigation.

In its statement, the Coast Guard noted that adverse weather conditions prevented them from boarding the "Shunxin 39" for verification. They indicated that they could not dismiss the possibility of the vessel being involved in activities described as "gray zone" operations. However, the statement did not provide direct evidence to support this claim.
